SF Magazine Cover Scans – Part 2

SF Magazine Cover Scans – Part 2

Moving away from the printed word in magazines for this post and into art work.

A selection of British magazines reprinting American stories. Published in the 1960s and 1970s.

There is a whole load of stuff that could be written about magazines like these. The subject matter very simplistic compared to comics today but for it’s time very mind expanding to the right person.

A couple of new videos and pictures from collaboration with tangled feet.

Been a busy time over the last few months with tangled feet theatre company. As well as documenting their work in still images (photos…) I have also had a bit of extra fun doing a few videos for their projects – either existing ones or ones that they are developing.

So, here is The Measurement Shop – a new style of popup theatre in empty shops and R and D on Scaffolding (I call it Scaffold but it will probably have a new name by the time it gets completed and is on show.

SF Magazine Cover Scans – Part 1

So, theres quite a pile of SF magazines on top of the book case spanning the fities to the seventies with a nice selection of covers that pretty much sum up the period.

What’s really great about them for me is the range of names on the covers – some absolute greats there – Algis Budrys, Willy Ley, Isaac Asimov, John Brunner, Frank Herbet etc. These are just the covers of course, the contents are brilliant too and I’ll put a few more of these up as we go along.

Saatchi – Newspeak – 2010 – Saatchi Gallery

Saatchi – Newspeak – 2010 – Saatchi Gallery

Newspeak is open at the Saatchi gallery and follows on from last year’s Sensation and stunning New Art from China.

The joy about the exhibition is that it is free but the downside is that sometimes there is a tendency to want to rush through some of the rooms because there is ‘nothing to see’ in police parlance. The mix of artists means that there is sometimes a hit and miss approach so that some things will stun and amaze whilst others will give rise to a shrug of the shoulders.

MANY DEAD THINGS – THE SPECIMENS OF ALEX CF

MANY DEAD THINGS – THE SPECIMENS OF ALEX CF

In his first solo exhibition, following the release of his monograph, artist Alex CF offers the public a unique opportunity to see his bizarre specimens in person – objects that have so far only been witnessed by private collectors, such as Maxime Chattam (author) or Reece Shearsmith (actor, League of Gentlemen) who wrote the foreword for his book, and will be lending pieces from his own collection for the show.

Clock Opera at cargo – 29 January, 2010

Clock Opera at cargo – 29 January, 2010

A cold night to be out, so it was good to be inside the cavernous space that is Cargo in Shoreditch.

Sadly someone had seen fit to make the inside even cooler by switching the air con to ‘ice age’ setting but fortunately a quiet word from a gentlemen in authority led to a b bit more heat.

So it was that Clock Opera played their first London gig of the year (that I have been to at least). They were just back from Bournemouth and they have been busy.
