The Art of Memory – White Bear Theatre

Anubian Nights Theatre Company is proud to present the 2006 premiere of its latest production ‘The Art of Memory’.

The show, split into two parts – The Missing Scale and An Evening with Bunty Carnarvon – will play at The White Bear Theatre from September 12 to September 16 and is the result of a unique collaboration between a writer and performer.

Tenebris Light whose previous work includes Liberace’s Suit which played at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London’s West End to rave reviews ('…one of the funniest most thought provoking and most enjoyable shows in town!' The Express) in 2005 has stepped out from behind his keyboard to enter the limelight of the stage with his latest work – The Missing Scale.

Meanwhile, Fiona Watson who is more accustomed to performing on stage and in front of the cameras has taken up pen and paper to write her first solo piece – An Evening with Bunty Carnarvon.

This collaboration came about by chance when Tenebris and Fiona were talking about theatre at the end of 2005.

‘We both realised that neither of us had ever done the other’s job, I have always performed but never written and Tenebris has always written and never performed’ says Fiona Watson. ‘We both have years of experience in our fields and suddenly realised that we could help each other’ continues Tenebris Light.

This help has come in the form of intensive writing and performing ‘swaps’ which has come to fruition with two very distinct pieces that will be performed back to back every night.

‘We haven’t decided whose going to go first every night yet, maybe we’ll keep swapping it around depending on what we think the audience will be like’ says Fiona. The audience may be left wondering about who is on first but both shows will be based on the theme of Memory.

‘As we worked on our scripts we both realised that we were exploring the same things but from different angles, my show is about things that have been lost, the things that are missing in the life of my character and why’ says Tenebris. ‘Fiona is also doing the same but her show is about things we remember from history’

‘I wanted to look at the New Age and how it could be seen as a form of imperialism today and I got to thinking, don’t we now just go around the world appropriating other religions and beliefs to fill our spiritual void just as the British Empire took over countries to fill our material needs in the nineteenth century’ says Fiona.

Anubian Nights Theatre Company maintains it’s somewhat maverick and irreverent take on life in producing these shows which will be stimulating, thought provoking and also include a fair share of belly laughs.

The Art of Memory featuring Tenebris Light in the Missing Scale and Fiona Watson in An Evening with Bunty Carnarvon will be at the White Bear Theatre, Kennington, London from September 12 to September 16 with performances starting at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased via TicketWeb (http://www.ticketweb.co.uk) for £11.00.
