Amnesty International is inviting entries for its 15th annual Media Awards, which recognise excellence in journalism that has made a significant contribution to the UK public’s greater awareness and understanding of human rights issues.
Categories to enter in the sought-after awards are:
– National newspapers
– Periodicals, including weekend national print magazines and supplements
– Photojournalism
– Radio
– Television documentary and docudrama
– Television news
– Nations and regions: print or broadcast media in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the English regions
– Gaby Rado Memorial Award: for an up-and-coming journalist who has been covering human rights stories for less than five years.

National Newspapers: London – the world in one city, Leo Benedictus, The Guardian;
Periodicals: America's Gulag, Stephen Grey, New Statesman
Photo Journalism: Flames of Desperation, Nicola Kurtz, Sunday Times Magazine
Radio: Bhopal, BBC Radio 4, Susan Roberts – Director & Producer
TV Documentary: Panorama – The New Killing Fields, BBC, Darren Kemp – Producer, Hilary Andersson – Reporter
TV News: Falluja Forensics, Broadcast Company – Channel 4 News Independents, Production Company – Guardian Films, Tara Sutton – Director
Nations & Regions: Fascism in Russia, Billy Briggs, The Herald Magazine on Saturday, Scotland
Gaby Rado: Ali A Fadhil, Channel 4 Independents Fund and Guardian Films.
The closing date for receipt of this year’s entries is Thursday 16 March.
Entries for awards must have been published or transmitted in the UK between the 29 April 2005 and 16 March 2006.
