May 8 Great Music, Great Food for a Great Cause at Great American Music Hall

On Saturday May 8th, Seva Foundation will honor founding board member Larry Brilliant's 60th birthday with A Brilliant Birthday Bash at The Great American Music Hall. The event includes a dinner reception and a concert featuring: The Waybacks with special guest Bob Weir, The Flying Other Brothers 4 & Emory Joseph Trio, with host Wavy Gravy.

Dr. Larry Brilliant was one of the architects of Seva Foundation's programs in blindness prevention and restoration of sight while he was a professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan. Earlier in his career, he served on the World Health Organization team that successfully eradicated smallpox in Asia, and then brought together the top international leaders in sight care from W.H.O. academe and the National Institutes of Health, to push for the creation of ambitious programs to provide care for the poorest of the poor.

A physician by training, Larry has held roles of distinction in the disparate fields of infectious disease epidemiology, social activism and high-tech entrepreneurship. He was recently named "2004 International Public Health Hero" by the University of California and has been featured in Time Magazine, Wired, Wireless, Fast Company and several other technology magazines.

Seva Foundation currently works in India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia, Bangladesh & Tanzania to prevent blindness and restore sight. In Mexico & Guatemala, Seva assists indigenous communities with training and resources to meet vital needs for clean water, literacy and economic self-sufficiency. In the United States, where diabetes claims Native American lives at four times the national average, Seva offers diabetes prevention and small grants programs, created and directed by Native Americans.
